Visit the Wright Brothers Memorial to experience a glimpse of aviation history. The memorial marks the location where the first powered flight was successfully accomplished in 1903. You can learn more about the Wright brothers’ achievements by exploring exhibits and viewing a replica of their historic aircraft.
Fishing Piers of the Outer Banks
The Outer Banks offers several popular fishing piers, including the nearby wooden Avalon Pier, the modern concrete Jennette’s Pier (year-round), the unique repurposed Bonner Bridge Pier, and iconic spots like Nags Head Pier, and the Outer Banks Fishing Pier, providing fishing, dining, shops, and ocean views from Rodanthe up to Kitty Hawk, with most featuring tackle shops and rentals.
Jockey’s Ridge State Park

The best public beach accesses in Kill Devil Hills (KDH) offer amenities like parking, showers, lifeguards, and accessibility features, with Ocean Bay Blvd, Carlow Ave, Raleigh Ave, and Eighth Street being top choices for their comprehensive facilities, including Mobi-mats at Ocean Bay for wheelchairs. Other great spots include First Street (lifeguard, showers) and Oregon Ave (lifeguard, shower), but remember parking fills fast, so arrive early.

Rocky Top Escape is not far from the world’s largest convenience stores: Buc ee’s of Sevierville, TN! They offer a huge selection of snacks and food, making it a popular must-stop shop for travelers visiting the Smokies.They are famous for their “Beaver Nuggets,” walls of jerky, homemade fudge, and fresh barbecue (especially brisket)!
The Island in Pigeon Forge

Waterrock Knob Trail
This is a must-stop along the Blue Ridge Parkway. It’s one of the most popular scenic destination in western North Carolina. You can take in the views from the parking area or get the full experience by hiking a short trail to the summit. Whatever you choose, you’re sure to have an unforgettable experience!
Soco Falls
Soco Falls is a natural wonder located just a few short miles from our cottage. Take a very short hike along the trail to reach this hidden gem, where two cascades converge into a peaceful pool below. Be sure to bring your camera and take in the breathtaking scenery of this secluded oasis.
Cataloochee Ski Area
This is a great place to go if you love winter sports like skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing. They have well-groomed trails that are perfect for all skill levels, and you can take a scenic chairlift ride to see the snowy peaks of the Smoky Mountains. When you’re ready to take a break, you can warm up and relax in the cozy lodge atmosphere. It’s the perfect winter getaway!
